Introduction / History
The Viswakarma in Tamil Nadu speak, read and write in Tamil. They are vegetarians and they eat rice. Hinduism is their religion. They practice marriage between cousins. Widowers can marry again. They have a caste council to look after them. Boys study to college level. Metal cutting and jewelry making are their main occupations. They use family planning and modern medicines.
In Pondicherry, the Viswakarma arrange marriages by discussion. There are birth and marriage rituals. Divorce and marrying again for the bereaved are allowed. Monogamy is the way for them. The dead are buried. Sons inherit the property on the death of the father with the oldest becoming in charge of the home. They are not vegetarians. They speak read and write in Tamil and Telugu.
In Karnataka they speak, read and write in Kannada. Girls study to secondary level while boys study further. They are vegetarians in that location. The women are usually sterilized. Two children for them tends to be the custom.
In Kerala, the Viswakarma speak, read and write in Tamil and Malayalam.
